Brenda Clark

Brenda was born in Warsaw, Indiana in 1975 to Buck and Laura Belle Young.  She and her fraternal twin sister, Susie, are the seventh and eighth out of their nine children.  Brenda attended Warsaw Community High School, and served as the French Club vice-president.  She was inducted into the National Honor Society and earned the Young Woman in Excellence Award during her Senior year.  Brenda graduated with Indiana Academic Honors in 1994.

After high school, Brenda attended Purdue University.  She majored in Education and double minored in Reading and in Computer Education. She was inducted into both Kappa Delta Pi, an Honor Society in Education, and Alpha Upsilon Alpha, an Honor Society in Reading.  Brenda earned an Indiana Teacher License and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1999.

While in college, Brenda met and married her sweetheart, Josh Clark.  They have been happily married since 1996.  They both joined the Waimea Lions Club together, looking for ways to help serve the community.

Since graduating from Purdue, Brenda has pursued teaching the youth of our nation.  She taught middle school English for five years, and high school English and ESL for four years.  In fact, it was a teaching opportunity at Hawaii Preparatory Academy that brought her to Hawaii.  She continues to teach and thoroughly enjoy working with adolescents.

Brenda has pursued other aspects of life in Hawaii including dancing with Halau Hula Ka No’eau in Waimea, getting SCUBA certified, and even getting on a surfboard. Her other interests include hiking and scrapbooking.

She is currently working on a Masters Degree in English Literature through a summer program through Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English (named after Bread Loaf Mountain behind the Vermont campus).  She has already been able to use skills from this program to continue to improve her classroom approach and techniques.

Brenda is excited to be able to serve as the Waimea Lions Club President.  She hopes that her efforts in service will benefit the people in Waimea
